Erin O’Toole was kicked out from the party’s leading role, leaving his previous deputy Candice Bergen to control a split assembly till its own members choose a brand-new leader with a fresh path.
Bergen was deputy leader of the Conservatives beneath O’Toole, she spoke for the riding of Portage — Lisgar ever since 2008, and was Opposition leader from 2016 to 2020.
This will be the 3rd administration race ever since prime minister Harper bowed out after losing to the Liberal Party at the 2015 political election.
Conservative MP Scott Reid, the chair of the national assembly, points out that Bergen was among 9 candidates for this position.
