Can Wearing Face Masks Cause Brain Damage and Other Health Issues?

A new study that was carried out by experts from Germany came to the conclusion that individuals can sustain brain damage by wearing face masks, even for brief periods of time.

The research, which was published in the journal Heliyon, reveals that the usage of face masks can lead to carbon dioxide poisoning, which can result in a variety of major health concerns, such as stillbirths, testicular dysfunction, and cognitive decline in children. The research was conducted in China and the United States.

According to the findings of this study, even brief exposure to CO2 concentrations as low as 0.3% for an extended period of time might result in severe brain damage, increased anxiety, and decreased memory. In addition, the loss of testicular cells and sperm was seen in an experiment in which male mice were subjected to a concentration of 2.5% CO2 for a period of four hours. In terms applicable to humans, this would translate to an exposure level of 0.5% to CO2 during the same span of time. In a separate set of experiments, pregnant rats who were subjected to 3% CO2 suffered stillbirths and birth abnormalities, which is the human equivalent of 0.8%.

In addition, the report references previous research that demonstrates a rise in CO2 levels of between 1.4% and 3.2% after wearing a mask for as little as five minutes. Even though the study only presents indirect evidence, the researchers imply that there was an increase in the number of stillbirths that occurred during the pandemic and propose that masks might have had a role in the rise.

The findings of the study are backed by a report that was conducted by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). The report came to the conclusion that there is no evidence to indicate that medical-grade face masks protect vulnerable persons from COVID. These findings were found to be consistent with the findings of the study.

In spite of the growing body of information, there are still people who put on masks, and there are still schools and travel firms that require their students to do so. The researchers who conducted the study in Germany encourage individuals to exercise caution and think about the possible risks that might be posed by wearing face masks for extended periods of time.
