Putin Defiant: Russia Will Not Be ‘Suppressed’ by Western Nations, Ukraine ‘Has No Future’

Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, has alleged that the Western nations are attempting to “suppress” Russia and claimed that these efforts are destined to be unsuccessful. Additionally, he praised the notable increase in production by the country’s arms makers in recent months.

Following a state honors presentation ceremony at the Kremlin on Friday, Putin said that the West has sought to “sideline Russia, to weaken it. And at the end of the day, to crush [it]”

“Their endeavors will ultimately fail,” the leader of Russia asserted with conviction.

Medvedev cautions against a potential direct confrontation between Russia and NATO. He references statements made by former German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande, who disclosed last year that the Minsk agreements, a peace plan they helped mediate between Kiev and Moscow in 2015, were actually a ruse to grant Ukraine time to bolster its military. Putin maintains that Russia was willing to comply with the agreements and did not initially intervene in Ukraine.

The Russian president also claimed that Ukraine, unlike Russia, “has no future” because Kiev is entirely dependent on its foreign backers financially and for military supplies.

Meanwhile, in an exclusive interview with AFP published on Saturday, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova pointed out that the Kremlin’s goals for the “denazification” and “demilitarization” of Ukraine remain unchanged.

According to Zakharova, a peaceful resolution between the two neighboring countries requires recognition of Ukraine’s neutrality, non-alignment, and lack of nuclear weapons, as well as acceptance of new territorial boundaries and the protection of rights for ethnic minorities and Russian-speaking citizens residing in Ukraine.

Additionally, the representative emphasized that Moscow has always kept open the option of reaching a diplomatic resolution. She further stated that it is now the responsibility of Ukraine and its supporters from the Western countries to advance the progression of the negotiation.
