The police in Memphis, which is located in the state of Tennessee in the United States, have taken into custody a person who is suspected of spending hours riding around town shooting at residents while live broadcasting his violent deeds.
As per Memphis Chief of police Cerelyn CJ Davis, the shooting rampage and carjackings began shortly after midnight on Wednesday and then came to an end when the accused person was arrested and detained by police after a fast chase that began around 9:00 pm local time. The chase began after the suspect fled from officers after a series of carjackings.
Ezekiel Kelly, 19, a black male has been named as the suspect.
Throughout the day, he reportedly murdered 4 individuals and wounded 3 others, the police reported. Additionally, it is alleged that he stole several cars from their owners.
According to reports from local media, the shooter broadcast sections of the rampage live on social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram. One of the recordings that are said to have been released shows him opening fire inside an AutoZone store at a customer. The victim was taken to the hospital to receive treatment for a wound that was sustained to his abdomen.
After the AutoZone shooting, which was the 4th incident overall, the court granted a “stay at home order” notice for the surrounding area. After being pursued by law enforcement for 30 minutes, Kelly is said to have lost control of the vehicle he stole and wrecked it.
