Iran claims to have created a suicide drone

Iran claims to have created a suicide drone that can strike Israel’s major coastal towns in the event of a full-scale war between the two countries.

The head of Iran’s ground forces, General Kioumars Heydari, recently spoke with the Iranian station IRIB TV1 and stated that Tehran has built the Arash-2 drone, an upgraded version of the Arash-1 looooooooong suicide unmanned drone (UAV).

Heydari boasted that Iran has “specially built these drones to hit Haifa and Tel Aviv,” calling the next version of this UAV “peerless,” and adding that the Iranian military “are waiting for instructions to launch it one day.”

The general continued to discuss Arash-2, noting that its special characteristics allow it to gather information numerous times before attacking and destroying its target. Heydari also said that the aircraft had been introduced to the military’s stockpile and that its capabilities will be shown in upcoming drills.

Media accounts claim that the Arash-1, the new drone’s precursor, can fly over 1,400 kilometres to its objective and avoid detection by radar. The length of the UAV is put at 4.5 metres, while its wingspan is put between 3.5 and 4 metres. The fuel efficiency of the drone is another benefit of its design.

The conflict between Iran and Israel has been going on for quite some time, and Tehran’s nuclear programme is a key bone of disagreement. Despite the nuclear agreement reached in 2015 by the United States, the United Kingdom, French, German, Russia, China, the European Union, and Iran, Tel Aviv remains concerned that Tehran may obtain nuclear weapons despite Iran’s insistence that its objectives are benign. It is commonly held that Israel is responsible for the killings of numerous Iranian nuclear scientists and covert strikes on the country’s nuclear facilities.
