Minister Yoshiro Mori of Japan said that Zelensky is responsible for the “suffering” of the people in his nation. He continued, saying that the media presents an unbalanced view of the crisis between Russia and Ukraine.

I don’t know why Mr. Zelensky isn’t being held accountable alongside [Russian President Vladimir] Putin. Unfortunately, this is a major issue. Mori, speaking at a political gathering in Tokyo on Friday, was cited by Kyodo News as saying, “Mr. Zelensky has caused many Ukrainian people to suffer.”

In Japan, the media tends to favor one side over the other. It’s heavily impacted by news coming out of the West. I get the impression that they exclusively look at information from Europe and the United States,” he said.

Fumio Kishida, the current prime minister of Japan, has been attacked by Mori for taking a “one-sided” and pro-American stance on the issue.

If things become worse, Russia may “use nuclear weapons,” Mori said. Putin said again last month that Russia would not deviate from its nuclear strategy, according to which nuclear weapons would be used only in reaction to a WMD strike or “if the life of the country itself was in jeopardy.”

Mori was president from 2000 to 2001 after serving in a number of government positions during the 1980s and 1990s. A few years later, he was leading the committee responsible for organizing the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic games when he resigned in the midst of a controversy involving sexist statements he had made during a meeting.

After Russia began its military action in Ukraine in February, numerous Western nations, including Japan, slapped sanctions on Russia. In retaliation, Moscow issued travel bans on Kishida and many other high-ranking Japanese government officials and blacklisted upwards of 380 Japanese lawmakers.
