TORONTO — As of Monday, Ontarians who suffer from one of 13 common diseases no longer need to see their physician before getting a prescription filled at the local pharmacy.

According to the announcement made by the provincial administration, pharmacists are now granted the authority to write prescriptions for treatments of illnesses such as pink eye, hemorrhoids, as well as urinary tract infections.

Residents in the province are instructed to have their health card when visiting a participating drugstore.

Both Shoppers Drug Mart & Rexall have reported that the pharmacists working for them will be prepared to perform the service today.

Paxlovid is currently available for prescription via Ontario pharmacies.
On the other hand, the executive director of the Ontario Pharmacists Association advised that customers anticipate a bit of a ramp-up time.

According to Justin Bates, Ontarians should contact their local pharmacies or check the websites of those pharmacies to see whether they are prepared to fill prescriptions.

The province’s administration claims that the new program would not add any further costs to the lives of Ontarians and therefore will free up medical professionals to handle more complicated medical concerns.
