Manchester City came back from being down two goals to defeat Crystal Palace

At the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, Manchester City came back from being down two goals to defeat Crystal Palace by a score of 4-2 thanks to a hat trick scored by Erling Haaland in the second half.

Haaland, who scored nearly one goal per game in the Bundesliga for Borussia Dortmund before he moved to City in June, has now scored six times in his opening four league matches for Pep Guardiola’s side. Haaland’s scoring average in the Bundesliga for Borussia Dortmund was almost one goal per game before he moved.

The victory puts City on top of the standings, tied for first place with Brighton & Hove Albion who also have 10 points. Palace is currently in 13th place with 4 points after their first 4 games.

Haaland received a standing ovation when he was taken out of the game with six minutes remaining, but at halftime, City was facing the possibility of a repeat of their 2-0 loss at home to Palace in the previous season.

After taking the lead on an own goal scored by John Stones in the fourth minute, Patrick Vieira’s team extended their advantage to two goals in the 21st minute when an unmarked Joachim Andersen slammed in a header from an Eberechi Eze corner kick. This gave the away team a 2-0 lead.

City had difficulty finding their rhythm, but the nearly inevitable comeback began in the 53rd minute when Bernardo Silva cut in from the right and his low effort took a tiny deflection and beat goalkeeper Vicente Guaita. City had struggled to establish its rhythm throughout the match.

Then, Guardiola made two substitutions, one of which was moving Phil Foden to the left-back position. Within a minute, Foden had delivered a precise cross, and Haaland finished it off with a great glancing header.

The striker followed that up by putting the ball in the back of the net from close range following a deft move that was inspired by Silva. The striker then saved the best for last by demonstrating to Ilkay Gundogan the pass that he wanted to run onto and then holding off Joel Ward as he shot the ball into the bottom corner.

It had been a great moment for both my family and me, and I couldn’t be happier about it. “It’s an amazing feeling to get three goals in one game,” Haaland added.

“It’s about making an effort to keep doing what we’ve been doing. It was a matter of making quite minor tweaks, which we did, and as a result, we saw benefits. It was required of us to pay attention to the manager.

Haaland emphasized that it was crucial for City to maintain their composure after Palace scored two goals in the first half.

We have the idea that we trust one another, and we are aware that opportunities will present themselves. It’s important to keep moving forward. In the end, we were successful in scoring four goals, which is a very positive development.

“It should serve as a wake-up call that we need to improve by working diligently on our training and growing. When we play in our own venue, we shouldn’t let in goals at the beginning of the game. It’s a matter of putting in more effort,” he explained.
