The fact that artificial intelligence-created art took first place in a competition held in the U. S. has raised controversy and has been called a threat to real artists everywhere. The piece in question was created by a game designer.

At the Colorado State Fair, the winner of the “digital arts/digitally-manipulated photography” category was Jason M. Allen, age 39, with his image “Theatre D’opera Spatial.” There were more than a dozen other submissions in the competition.

Midjourney, an artificial intelligence program, was used to generate the winning piece of artwork. This tool transforms text lines into pictures that are surprisingly lifelike. Along with the honor, there was a monetary prize of $300.

Text-to-image systems existed for a long time now, and major investors in this group include businesses like Google and OpenAI. AI technologies can generate images that existed for a long time.

“I’m not apologizing for it…,” the speaker said in an interview with The New York Times that was published on Friday, Allen, who is originally from Pueblo, Colorado, stated that he won by not breaking any regulations.

On the other hand, many people have resorted to social media in order to voice their displeasure and outrage regarding the prize. They contend that it devalues the laborious effort that is put in by humans in order to physically make remarkable art.

“Jason Allen, you should know that you’re not an artist. You have never had any experience with real tools, Just texts,” a user of a social media platform wrote in a post on Twitter. It’s true that Midjourney might be entertaining, but you should never use it to steal work from other artists.
