Ukraine said that it has retaken large swaths of land from Russian soldiers

On Thursday, Ukraine said that it had retaken large swaths of land in the south of the nation from Russian soldiers. This news came as dissatisfaction in Russia grew with the way the conflict was being handled.

Since Saturday, Ukrainian troops have retaken about 500 square kilometers (195 square miles) of terrain and dozens of communities in the southern Kherson area, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

He said this in a video message and also mentioned that there had been further military victories in the east. The Kremlin’s claim to have seized around % of Ukraine is brought into question by the combat successes that were announced in Kherson. These triumphs are the newest in a series of Russian losses that have undermined this claim.

Natalia Gumeniuk, a spokesperson for the Southern Army Command, said that the land that was reclaimed was the location of approximately 30 villages and towns that had been controlled by Russian troops for many months.

After launching their invasion on February 24th, the Russian forces from Moscow were able to quickly and easily take control of the territory of Kherson, which had an approximate pre-war population of around one million people.

Officials who were placed by Russia have reiterated their request for people to maintain their composure, and a deputy pro-Moscow commander named Kirill Stremousov said that soldiers loyal to the Kremlin were going to hold back the advance.

Amid Ukraine’s counteroffensive, maps from the Russian Ministry of Defense indicate rapid retreats in the strategically important Kherson area.

According to the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, his soldiers are making “quick and forceful” progress against the forces of Russia in the southern and east of the country.
