Things Every Man Should Know About The Prostate

You should inquire about the prostate the next time you visit your father, uncle, or any other male over the age of 60. If you’re close enough with the guy and he feels safe enough to open up to you, he’ll likely tell you everything about the common prostate issues that he’s having, has had, or will have in the near future. Specifically, beyond a certain age, every man has an equal chance of developing prostate cancer, benign prostatic hypertrophy, or an enlarged prostate.

This is the frightening reality of becoming older as a guy. For instance, every guy should know that prostate cancer is one of the most frequent disorders out there. It leads the list of malignancies that afflict males, occurring in almost as many men, approximately speaking, as breast cancer in women. However, most guys would rather not talk about what’s occurring down there, which may explain why prostate cancer isn’t as often discussed as breast cancer.

The second thing men should know about their prostates but typically don’t is what they are. A man’s prostate gland is an actual member of his genitalia. The prostate is a walnut-sized gland that sits directly below a man’s bladder and wraps around his urethra. In the grand scheme of things, its primary function is to lubricate your sperm before ejaculation.

And because the prostate is concealed inside the organ, most men are unaware that they have one; yet, when most men have a typical prostate condition, they learn very fast what a prostate is and where it is located.

Men of various ages can have prostate problems, for example. Infected prostates, known as prostatitis, can be exceedingly painful for men under the age of 50. This is a swelling of the prostate that can produce fever, a burning feeling during urine, and weariness.

And all men over the age of fifty should know that benign prostatic hypertrophy, or an enlarged prostate, is the most prevalent condition affecting the prostate. If you’re an older man, you may take comfort in the fact that this ailment is significantly more prevalent than prostate cancer, and it’s harmless.

Benign prostatic hypertrophy can cause dribbling and leakage when urinating, a weak urine stream, difficulty starting to urinate, and even trace quantities of blood in the urine, all of which are signs that all men should be aware of.

Although benign prostatic hypertrophy is more prevalent than cancer of the prostate, men should be aware that the two conditions often occur together. The reality is that many men who have an enlarged prostate will never get cancer. However, it is important to be on the lookout for both conditions, as their symptoms may be identical.
