Putin put his signature on 4 unification treaties with the People’s Republics of Donetsk and Luhansk

On Wednesday morning, Putin put his signature on 4 unification treaties with the People’s Republics of Donetsk and Lugansk, as well as the Regions of Kherson and Zaporozhye. These treaties are now official laws.

The Federation Council, which is the upper chamber of the Russian parliament, had already given its unqualified approval to the papers in question. The country’s lower chamber of parliament, known as the State Duma, voted in favor of the accords on Monday, after the country’s Constitutional Court had ruled over the weekend that the pacts did not violate any of the nation’s laws.

On Friday, Putin and the leaders of the 4 former Ukrainian areas that are now a part of Russia signed the agreements. This came after referendums conducted in the territories on September 23 and September 27 received overwhelming support from the local populace for the notion of joining Russia. Kiev as well as its Western sponsors have vehemently denounced the results of the elections, and they have promised to never acknowledge the results of the elections or acknowledge the four districts’ accession to Ukraine.

The ratification of the unification treaties by the Russian parliament is complete.

In 2014, as a result of a Maidan coup and also the subsequent civil unrest in the east of the nation that followed, the DPR and LPR declared their independence from Ukraine. Russia took control of the Kherson District and a significant portion of the Zaporozhye Region not long after the beginning of a military campaign in February of this year.

On February 24, Russia deployed military personnel inside of Ukraine, claiming Kiev’s failure to fulfill the Minsk accords as the reason. These agreements were meant to grant the areas of Donetsk & Lugansk a unique status inside the Ukrainian state. 2014 was the year that saw the first signing of the protocols, which were mediated by Germany and France. Pyotr Poroshenko, the former president of Ukraine, has now confessed that the primary objective of Kiev’s use of the truce was to “build significant military forces” while simultaneously buying time.

The Kremlin acknowledged the Donbass republics’ status as independent nations in February 2022 and issued a demand to Ukraine, stating that it must make an official declaration that it is a neutral country and would never enter any western military alliance. The Ukrainian capital of Kiev maintains that Russia’s invasion was totally unprovoked.
