The United States Department of Justice announced on Thursday that three men, including a Mafia hitman, had been charged in connection with the death of famed Boston crime lord James “Whitey” Bulger in a jail in the state of West Virginia.

The United States Department of Justice announced on Thursday that three men, including one with a Mafia hitman, had been charged in connection with the death of famed Boston crime lord James “Whitey” Bulger in a jail in the state of West Virginia.

Almost four years following Bulger’s murder, charges have been brought against Fotios “Freddy” Geas, Paul J. DeCologero, with Sean McKinnon. This has prompted issues as to why the known “snitch” is put in the general community as opposed to more guarded quarters. The charges against the men include conspiring to commit murder in the first degree.

After being moved from a penitentiary in Florida, where he was doing life for 11 killings and other offenses, Bulger was murdered by beatings in USP Hazelton in Oct of 2018, only hours after he had arrived there. According to the allegations made by the prosecution, Geas & DeCologero pounded Bulger in the skull many times, which ultimately led to his passing.

In addition to being charged with assault that resulted in serious physical injury, Geas and DeCologero have also been charged with conspiring to commit first-degree murder by the Department of Justice. A further murder charge by a federal prisoner sentenced to life in prison is being brought against Geas, and a separate charge of giving inaccurate claims to a government officer is being brought against McKinnon. Both of these charges are unrelated to each other.
