Beginning the next week, Chinese President Xi Jinping will go to Russia for a meeting with Vladimir Putin, which will take place over the course of three days. Both nations made the declaration on Friday, and during their next meeting, they want to talk about “strategic collaboration.”

In accordance with a statement that was issued by the press office of the Kremlin, President Putin has extended an invitation to Chinese President Xi Jinping to undertake a state visit to Russia between the dates of March 20-22, 2023.

In addition, the statement noted that significant bilateral agreements on a number of crucial papers will be inked during the meeting.

Nevertheless, neither nation has verified the earlier accusations made by the Wall Street Journal that President Xi wants to call Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy when he is in the country during the visit. These rumors were made public earlier this week. Since Russia began its all-out invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, this would be the first time the two presidents would have had the opportunity to communicate with one another.

Although Beijing had what it called a “no-limit collaboration” with Moscow in the days leading up to the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine, the Chinese government has subsequently made efforts to portray itself as a mediator in the conflict.

As a direct consequence of this, China has presented a 12-point strategy for achieving peace. However, the efforts of China have been greeted with criticism from Western leaders, who say that Beijing is not impartial in the issue and is thus unable to serve as a mediator because of this.

The United States has also leveled the accusation that China provides “help” to Russia in the form of non-lethal assistance. According to customs data acquired exclusively by POLITICO, Chinese corporations shipped more than a thousand assault weapons, parts for drones, and body armor to Russian organizations between June and December of 2022.
