The Untold TRUTH

NBA Player Defies Calls for Silencing, Criticizes League for Unconditional Support of Chinese Communist Regime

Enes Kanter, an NBA player born in Turkey who changed his name to Freedom when he became a US citizen, has criticized the league for its relationship with the Chinese Communist Party. Kanter believes that the partnership is inappropriate due to China’s human rights abuses against minority groups, including Uyghur Muslims.

Kanter, who immigrated to the US as a teenager, has noted the contrast between the freedoms he experiences in the US and the lack thereof in his home country, stating that in the US there is “freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of expression, freedom of the press,” whereas he did not have any of these freedoms in Turkey.

Enes Kanter, also known as Freedom, has criticized the NBA for its close financial relationship with China, which generates approximately $5 billion annually for the league. Kanter, a professional basketball player known for his skill at the center position and his physical size, has struggled to secure a spot on a team for the 2022-23 season. In the past, he has played for the Boston Celtics and Portland Trail Blazers.

In a recent Fox News appearance, Kanter condemned the league and its commissioner, Adam Silver, for their ties to the Chinese government despite its human rights abuses. He referred to the NBA as the “No Boundaries Association” and accused it of providing “free propaganda to a genocidal regime.” Kanter also commented on a video of Chinese Ambassador Qin Gang shooting free throws on an NBA court before a game.

The NBA player said that in their 11 years and over 800 games played in the league, they had never seen an ambassador from any government take the court before a game and shoot free throws. When their manager sent them a video of the Chinese ambassador doing just that, they initially thought it was a joke but upon seeing the tweet from the ambassador, they were disgusted.

The Chinese ambassador, Qin, had posted a video on Twitter of himself taking shots at an NBA game and noted that it had renewed the special relationship between the Washington Wizards and China, as the Wizards were the first NBA team to visit China in 1979 when the two countries established diplomatic relations.

Freedom believes that he was released from the Houston Rockets earlier this year due to his views on the Chinese government. In an interview with Fox News, Freedom criticized NBA Commissioner Adam Silver for his silence on the issue of Muslims being slaughtered in concentration camps in China and for working with the Chinese regime, which Freedom described as the most brutal in the world.

Freedom challenged Silver to look him in the eye and deny knowing about the 3 million people in concentration camps in China who are allegedly being tortured and raped daily. Freedom expressed shame towards Silver for his perceived inaction on the matter.

It is uncertain if Freedom will be signed to another NBA team for the upcoming season, but it is certain that he will not alter his beliefs on what he regards as the cruelest regime in the world.
