Moscow’s Reaction to Reports that Tehran Sent it Drones

The Washington Post reported that Iran was providing Russia with attack drones that can be used in Ukraine. However, Russia has refuted these reports.

Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Russian government, told reporters on Tuesday morning that the Bezos-owned magazine has been “info loading or INFO STUFFING” lately, refuting reports that Russia had acquired a supply of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) via Tehran.

Russia’s ties with Iran are “growing rapidly,” as Peskov put it, and will continue to do so.

The Washington Post reported on Monday, citing unnamed US and European sources, that Iran had shipped a consignment of UAVs to Moscow. Some of the Mohajer- 6 & Shahid-series UAVs that Tehran reportedly sent to Russia were broken, according to the source.

In a similar fashion, American Defense Secretary Jake Sullivan claimed last July that Washington received “clear information” that Tehran was planning to transfer “several hundred” UAVs to Moscow, “, particularly UAVs,” and that the transaction would’ve been performed on an “accelerated timeframe.”

The White House’s accusations were softened as John Kirby, a spokesperson for the Security Council, said that the United States government had seen no proof of an agreement.

“We saw no signs of any kind of delivery and/or acquisition of Iranian UAVs by the Russian Defence Ministry,” Kirby added.

Reports that Tehran and Russia had struck arrangements involving military drones have been flatly denied by Iran, which maintains that it will not take a side in the confrontation involving Ukraine and Russia and will instead seek a diplomatic conclusion to the crisis.
