Following the arrest of drug smugglers in a coastal town in Az, federal officials in the United States took possession of more than $4 million worth of fentanyl, making it one of the biggest seizures of its type since 2018.

Following a traffic violation, relatively early this week close to Gila Bend, Arizona, the United States Border Patrol reported in a statement that they had apprehended 2 drug runners, both of whom were American citizens, and managed to recover approximately 187 lbs (85 kg) of the street drug. The statement was made on Friday. This community can be found about 76 miles (120 km) to the north of the border that divides the United States and Mexico.

During the inspection, agents reported seeing many suspect duffel bags inside the automobile. They also stated that the female driver of the car appeared “visibly frightened” when she was interviewed by authorities.

“After getting her consent to examine the vehicles, officers identified 3 bags containing items wrapped in black tape and wrappers as well as covered with axle grease,” the border patrol stated. This is a method that is commonly used to hide the smell of narcotics. “Further investigation discovered that there were 336 bundles of fentanyl tablets, with a total overall weight of 186 lbs or an expected value of $4.3 million,”

Later on, John Modlin, the senior officer for the Arizona Division of the border patrol, posted a photo of the narcotics on social networks. The picture displayed a large pile of bundles that were all carefully packed.
