During a news conference held on Tuesday in Ankara, the Turkish Leader, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, issued a warning that the forthcoming winters may turn out to be difficult for Europeans and that the governments themselves are responsible for making it so.
The leader of Turkey stated to the media that “Europe is reaping what it sows” in reference to the natural gas shortages that have been plaguing the region. He stated that the countries of Europe’s attitude toward Russian President Putin as well as the extensive sanctions that have been imposed on Russia are responsible for the current crisis.
“I believe that Europeans may spend this winter dealing with significant issues. Erdogan pointed out that Turkey does not have any issues related to the availability of gas supply.
After Moscow issued a warning about an impending “huge global storm” that would be caused by the “illogical and often absurd” moves made by Western nations, Erdogan made his statement.
The Kremlin said in a statement released on Monday that the sanctions put on Russia by the United States, the European Union, and other nations had backfired and brought about a widespread energy problem in addition to historic hyperinflation across the West.
On Monday, the price of natural gas experienced a rise of 30 percent after it was announced that Russia’s Nord Stream pipeline would not be able to resume operations due to maintenance issues. After an inspection revealed that there were technical issues with the main turbine, the energy giant Gazprom of Russia, which also operates the pipeline, announced that the gas path lines would remain closed indefinitely.
Moscow claimed that the sanctions imposed by the West are the only factor stopping the Nord Stream pipeline from operating at full capacity, while Gazprom has cautioned that anti-Russian restrictions are making it difficult to do routine maintenance on the pipeline’s infrastructure.
European leaders have already been trying to accuse Moscow of using gas supplies as a global political tool, whereas German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that Moscow could no longer be regarded as a reliable energy partner. Both of these statements have been made in response to recent statements made by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
